What happens when you pour water into a cup? How about when you pour that same water into a teapot? How about when you pour that same water into a bowl? That water is formless and shapeless and turns into what environment it is put in.

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches her students to be flexible like water. She teaches about an approach where we learn to be mentally flexible; where there is no rigidity to our thought process. Instead, we have an open approach to what happens in our lives. We want to be positive and make sure we are focused on the right things, but having flexibility helps us to manage stress, deal with issues and problems and manage our lives better. This mindset will help us to focus on the present and the future and be ready for events that occur in our lives. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches this principle during her martial arts classes and training.

Everyone has issues or problems that they need to deal with on a daily basis, whether it is in your career, family or financial. New issues regularly come into existence that bring about stress and unbalance. Developing a flexible mental approach helps us to deal with these problems in a calmer and more balanced manner. We should all start to practice and build up our habit of having a flexible mindset.

We had a most outstanding, powerful testing at Jung Suwon a couple of weeks ago.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim was personally conducting the testing.  You can imagine what an exciting  day it was!

We have featured some great action pictures and some videos, and now it’s time to share another aspect of Jung Suwon testings.  The written exam!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim requires every student to complete a written exam before they can perform their physical test.  If a warrior is too young to write, they draw pictures, and tell either their parents, or an instructor, the answer to questions.

Today, we introduce to you a great young warrior, Harjarspreet, 8 years, 7 months to be exact.  Read what he wrote!  What great insight and experience !  It will warm your heart and lift your spirit, and it will show you how good it is for people of all ages to train!

Almost a year ago, in May of 2012, we had an exciting black belt testing.  3 Gentlemen were testing, and today, we’ll highlight Mr. Greg Dumas.

Mr. Dumas receives his Second Degree Black Belt

Prior to his start in the Martial Arts, Mr. Dumas had never engaged in any physical activity.  He was an engineer, and only used his mind, never his body.  He is a great engineer, and holds several patents.

During his first year of training, or perhaps, even years, when he started training at Jung Suwon, he only would come in the afternoons and walk around the Do Jang when nobody else was there.  He would do that for hours.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim just let him be, and gave him that freedom to express himself that way.

Under Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s carefully planned training, Greg improved incredibly over the years.  He gained confidence in his physical abilities, and learned to put body, mind, and spirit together as one.

Now, he is full of confidence, has joined the Jung Suwon Demo team, and is a living example of Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim‘s teachings.  See in the following pictures what an incredible warrior he has become!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim told us the story that when she first started teaching – out of her garage – students never stuck around for long.  Why?  Because she trained them very traditionally, like she had learned.  However, that method didn’t work for the Western World.  Who wants to practice just horse riding stance, middle punch, for every class, for 3 months straight?  What Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim so excitedly did as a small girl in rural South Korea about 60 years ago, was no excitement for Westerners.

So, at Jung Suwon, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim strikes a happy and exciting balance between traditional, hard-core TKD training, and some serious fun.

And as a special treat, watch this fun new video here:

This past Saturday, May 26th, we have had a very private Black Belt Testing at Jung Suwon.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim tested our three mature warriors, ranging from age 61 – 72,  for the next level black belt.

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim had invited a few very special guests and wowed them with an incredible program, including the use of new breaking materials.

Mr. Greg Dumas, Mr. Bert McMahon and Mr. Harrison Peoples were on deck and did a most fantastic job.  More on that in the next post though, plus an exciting video to show you highlights of what happened.

Meanwhile, here is a beautiful and all new Jung Suwon self-defense routine performed by Ms. Nabi White and Master Jonathan Palmer.

This video doesn’t exist

Today we get to see a new Jung Suwon demo performance – grown up warriors perform Ba Sai, the first new form black belts learn, to music.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is encouraging creative energy for all kinds of Jung Suwon demonstrations, to show all aspects of training.  Forms, sparring, breaking, power techniques, speed techniques, and so much more.

In this video, you will see some very special Jung Suwon warriors perform to an energizing piece of music.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim was very pleased to see the creativity and excitement of the team!  It was very motivating to the performers, and also to the rest of the Jung Suwon students and of course, the audience.

Now you can enjoy Jung Suwon videos right here on our blog!  Come back and check often, since Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is very busy and has lots of events going on – and some of the videos will only be posted here!

On March 31st, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim received the Humanitarian from the Multi Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame.  And Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim really got the event going with her outstanding, motivating speech!

Leave us a comment here, or come to the Jung Suwon Facebook page and comment there!  We love our Jung Suwon warrior feed back!

This summer we are in for a real treat!  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim just announced that on some weekend this summer, Jung Suwon will go back to basics for a day – out into the woods, into the mountains, to give Jung Suwon warriors young and old a little taste of traditional training!

But what is Jung Suwon back to basics training?  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim points out that while we cannot go back in time, what we can do is go out into nature and connect with it similar how the olden time Masters trained their students.  Since we live in the here and now, in the 21st Century, we do have to adapt somewhat.

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim further invites us to experience Ki energy straight from nature, to learn to connect and utilize that Ki energy in our daily lives.  You will come back with increased self-confidence, motivation, Inner Power, inner peace, appreciation for team work,  just to name a few.

Here are some pictures to help you visualize what you might experience that day:

So, come on over to Jung Suwon, and let Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim know you want to sign up!

At Jung Suwon, we hear this a lot:  Body and Mind as one!  It is the first of our Code of Ethics here and so even the youngest of warriors, and the newest members learn this right away.

But what does it really mean?  Our teacher, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim, gives us great examples.  “If you are studying for a test,” Great Grandmaster Tae Yu Kim says, “and for hours look into your book, but at the same time you are daydreaming about this particular boy (or girl) and thinking how to best ask her/him out – and then you wonder why you get a bad grade on your test – well, your body and mind were not together – your body was looking into the book, but your mind was elsewhere!”

The same goes for breaking during Jung Suwon testings, or demonstrations.  At Jung Suwon, we do not practice breakings.  We practice to focus on having body and mind in harmony, together.  Sometimes Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim will ask some senior students to do some things that seem completely impossible – and they are, if you do not keep body and mind together.  Only when you have achieved harmony of body, mind, and spirit, will you be able to perform something like this!

Here is Chief Master Paul Newman, catching an arrow.  Please don’t try this by yourself!  Wait until Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim asks you to perform this – she will know when you are ready!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim doesn’t ask us to practice these things, and we never do.  Once our bodies and minds are in total harmony, catching an arrow will be no big deal.  But until then – do not attempt this, and go practice your basics and forms!

And as a special treat, here is the video:
