Congratulations to all of the new Jung SuWon color belts! Your hard work and dedication is paying off and it is being shown through your results. Now that the newly promoted warriors have new belts, it is time to wear them and start training.

As you start your next step on your journey, continue to remember the goals you set out and expressed during the ceremony. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us to have a purpose and determination in all that we do. We should carry that not only on the training floor but also in our daily lives. Apply and practice what we learn on the training floor!

Everybody, let’s keep the momentum going and make it an awesome 2017!

We are now three weeks into the new year of 2017. It feels like time is flying! Do you remember the goals you set for yourself in the beginning of the year? Are you still on track to achieve these goals or have you already forgotten what they were?

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us to continuously remind ourselves of our goals and make sure that it is in the forefront of our minds. She teaches us that having our goals imprinted in our minds is like punching in an address into your GPS – it gives us directions and clarity in our lives.

Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy provides us an environment where we can practice our focus and our discipline on a regular basis through training. Through working out and meditation, we are consistently working out our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual stamina. We need to constantly be fostering these attributes so that we can apply them in our daily lives.

Continue to train hard and remind yourselves what you want to achieve for 2017. Don’t let anything sway you from your goals!

On Saturday, January 7, 2017, Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy had the conclusion of the Black Belt Testing along with the Belt Ceremony. Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy is proud to announce 5 new Black Belt Warriors! Congratulations to Hardhi Shringeri, Chanakya Gulati, Sirish Nutakki, Bhavik Sardar and Akhila Vemuri. Through hard work and dedication, they have achieved the Black Belt rank at Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy. These students have been training for over 6 years and their journey to Black Belt has helped them to become the people they are today.

Not only were they dedicated to training for over 6 years and coming to classes on a regular basis, they also went through a series of tests that challenged them physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Everything they learned over the last 6 years was put to the test. They went through 3 days of being in the mountains with a sleeping bag and minimal food and water. This challenged them to push themselves and stretch out what they thought their limitations would be. Through their experiences, they learned about having gratitude for everything they have. They understood what it meant to appreciate food and water and shelter. In addition to that, they went through vigorous sparring exercises and forms and techniques.

At the end of the testing and ceremony, each one of them expressed what they learned over the years that they can apply to their lives in the present and in the future. They learned about having respect and gratitude. They learned how to face their fears and embrace challenges. They learned to not be afraid of trying new things. They learned about having confidence and being able to brand and market themselves. All of these lessons learned will help drive them to be successful throughout their lives.

Congratulations to these new Black Belt Warriors!

He Can Do, She Can Do, Why Not Me! Jung Su!

Welcome to the New Year 2017. This is a time where everybody begins to think about their plans and goals for this year. It is also a time to reflect on the previous year to see what goals were accomplished. Did I achieve the goals I set out to achieve? Did I improve on the different areas I wanted to improve?

At Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy, we began the new year with a kick-off class for 2017. All of the students of all ages and belt ranks gathered to practice and work out together. It was a class of unity and working together. Overall, it was a high energy class with positivity surrounding the training floor.

Everyone had the opportunity to regain their flexibility and wake up different muscles of the body that were dormant during the holiday break. School will be back in session and the schedule will return back to normal. All of the students were excited to be there to be able to work out and be in class and get their body moving. At the end, we gathered together to kick off the New Year with celebratory cake to start off the new year.

As Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us, we should set our “Future Memory” for 2017 and think about what we want to achieve. Visualize the goal and know that it has already been achieved inside of your mind and put into action. Everybody stay focused and let’s make it an awesome 2017!

He Can Do, She Can Do, Why Not Me!

Hello Jung Suwon warriors,

It’s been a while since we have posted here, but not to worry, we’ll be catching you up in no time.  So much has happened!  Most recently, we have had a big testing, on March 28 and 29, and you can see some videos on our FB

and on our new Vimeo channel, which you can find here.

As you all know by now, at a Jung Suwon testing, it’s not just about kicking and punching and breaking, no matter what age, there is a written test to take as well.  Among other things, an essay is required, and a report from a parent or close friend as to how you have improved since training.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim trains us in all aspects, body, mind and spirit!

Bluebelt Nehar did a particularly great job.  Here is what he did:

and here is what his mother said:

We have been buzzing with all sorts of activity!  Never a dull moment at Jung Suwon, and that is how Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim likes it to be!  She wants to share her wisdom with people of all ages, and has always something going on!

We just had a most outstanding testing last Thursday, it was the Jung Suwon 28-year in California  anniversary!  The Dojang was packed, and for the first time ever Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim divided up the DoJang into 3 rings, for 3 testing groups to challenge themselves at the same time.  We’ll put up a lot more pictures and stories about that!

Last weekend our brave and valiant demo team went up to San Francisco to perform at the Korean Festival, right on Union Square.

Korean Festival

The place was packed, and a large, enthusiastic crowd gave support to the team.

First, as always, they started out with Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s special energy form.

Then it was time to show some powerful body and mind demonstration:

and splits his energy equally and breaks both stacks of bricks!

Then, Master Palmer shows intense focus and concentration during his “jump over 4 people rolling break.”  Check it out:

And one of our purple belts, Luke Amador, dazzles with a fancy kick break routine, proving that no matter what age you are – you can achieve your goals!

At Jung Suwon, the demo team is not to show off a difficult skill, or just go to perform.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim allows students on the demo team not because they can pay money, or because they are so good.  No, at Jung Suwon, Our Great Grandmaster gives her students the opportunity to face their fears and anxieties and overcome them, to encourage them even more to become their best!

Stay in tune for more Jung Suwon updates, especially from the testing!

And for a special treat, watch our two newest demo team videos:

Master Karen Heart is bringing on the flower power!

This weekend, there has been a lot of activity at our own Jung Suwon facility, all sorts of beautification and improvements going on!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim wants us to have the best possible place to train at, and so has encouraged us to make some improvements – lets take a look at what is happening!

Jung Suwon Student planting team

Planting at Jung Suwon isn’t just putting flowers into the ground.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim encourages us to think beyond – when preparing the soil – prepare to accomplish a goal.  When we settle a plant into the ground, we set our goals, give them root.  When we put the soil around the plant, and tamp it down, we add determination to our goals.  Finally, when we weed and water, we also pull out everything that could prevent us from accomplishing our goals, and we give our goals renewed energy.

After planting, it was time for some new paint in the school!  See our two paint warriors apply themselves and work hard!

There is always something going on at Jung Suwon, and whether it’s a formal class, or an opportunity to put in your energy during facility upgrades – it’s all part of learning!

As Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim always says, have a purpose and determination!

2013-07-14 JSW booth-3

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim loves to be involved in our community, and we at Jung Suwon participate in as many community events as possible!

Last weekend, just a couple of blocks away from our school, we had a booth at the Newark Summer Fest, a nice gathering of the local community.  Jung Suwon was right there, with our own booth, occasional impromptu demonstrations, and ready to show some basic moves.

Some people even signed up on the spot and got their own uniforms right away!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim explains the benefits of Jung Suwon training like this:

“Certainly, increased physical strength and the knowledge of self-defense are desirable rewards of Jung Suwon martial arts training; they reduce fear and weakness and build true confidence and self-esteem.  The quality of physical training in Jung Suwon depends directly on the extent to which the spiritual training is applied.  learning the martial art moves and forms, learning how to spar effectively with an opponent, and demonstrating extraordinary physical feats (breaking bricks with your bare hand) require that you use all the principles of awareness, balance, visualization, commitment – all the rules of mental conduct – as well as the principles of inner power.

Training in the physical form of Jung Suwon requires that you focus all these ides within the parameters of this structured art form and that you develop yourself and measure your progress in  disciplined manner.  Your training, then, can be  feedback system, letting you know where you stand in taking control of your mind and body.”

Just because Jung Suwon Super Martial Arts facility might be closed on weekends, doesn’t mean that nothing is going on!  At Jung Suwon, we love to share what Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim has been teaching us, so we go out and give others an opportunity to see what we are all about!

This last weekend, a lot was going on!  We had a tabletop display going on at the local theater, and students were taking turns explaining the benefits of Jung Suwon.

And once in a while there were impromptu skill demonstrations:

IMG_0290 copy Danika kicking IMG_0292 copy Luke jumping

And while we were at the theater, and because Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim encourages us to learn something when we watch a movie, not just sit there and zone out, a group of Jung Suwon warriors watched the movie “Despicable Me 2.”

IMG_0283 copy little warrior in theater IMG_0282 copy JSW warriors in theater IMG_0281 copy little warrior with popcorn

So if you were among the ones watching the movie – what did you learn?  What did you relate to the most?  Which scene do you feel applied to you the most?  Go ahead and let Great Grandmaster know what you learned, and if you want to have another movie day!

“The goal in Jung SuWon is to make our whole lives a moving meditation, a process where at all times we move as One with our Silent Master, thereby creating harmony, peace, right action and everything that could be called love right where we are, right now! “ (Seven Steps to Inner Power, page 89)

Check out our new students at Jung Suwon!  Let’s welcome all the many new white belts!

Welcome to Jung Suwon!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim emphasizes the importance of families. Nowadays, it is very hard to have some family time together.  With both parents working, as is the case in the majority of American families, and kids involved in different activities, school or otherwise, it’s hard to carve out some time to be together.

NewJSWFamily7 copy

Families that train together, have more fun together, stay healthier, stronger, and have a lot to talk about and share!

But whether you are single, or have a family, come join us and train hard with us!  Everyone who joins us come for their own reasons – what is yours?  If you want to just be in better shape – no problem!  If you want your child to pay more attention at home and at school – training will help with that.  If your child is being bullied in school, we will teach him/her how to stand up to a bully.  If you need to lose weight, we have programs for you!

What you get out of training?  That depends to a great degree on how much you put in, and what you want to accomplish.

Whether you are just starting to consider training, or have already started, or have been training for many years: Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim has something for everyone, and always says this:

“The power is in you, it is your personal choice what you do in your life!
