“Yes, people do make mistakes and hurt others. We all make mistakes. But you never need to condemn yourself or anyone else over and over again for those mistakes. Learn whatever you need to, let it go, and then move on to create a new reality. The main obstacle to forgiving yourself is guilt. If you think back to your childhood, didn’t authority figures usually deal with mistakes or misbehavior by condemning the behavior and the person engaged in it? We weren’t taught that a mistake is an opportunity for education or an opportunity to see what doesn’t work so we can create a better solution.

We are already halfway through the year 2018. Are we still focused on the goals we had set in the beginning of the year? Are we on pace to achieve the goals that were stated in the beginning of 2018?

These are all very important questions to ask ourselves as we gear towards the second half of the year. Dr. Tae Yun Kim teaches her students about having a purpose and determination and having a future memory in everything that we do. Our goals need to be a part of us and we need to strive towards those goals each and every day. We can’t dream about it and hope that one day it falls in our laps. Instead, each day we need to do the things to help us get one step closer to that goal. As Dr. Tae Yun Kim states, “No one can eat for us, no one can sleep for us. The power is in our hands.”

These principles are also taught at Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy. During each belt testing, we ask the students what their goals are for their new color belt. Then, we have them constantly remind themselves what their goals were to insure that they are working towards those goals. We push the students to face their challenges and their fears and learn to overcome them. Let’s focus on the remainder of 2018 and focus on the goals that we had set forth and work to achieve them.

On page 187 in Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim‘s book, Seven Steps to Inner Power: How to Break Through to Awesome, she talks about being grateful.
“When you wake up and move your body before you begin your morning routine, pause for a moment to be grateful and happy for another day of opportunity. Think how blessed you are to have the use of your body. Celebrate, hum, sing as you stretch. Say, “Wow! I’m alive. Thank you for my hands, thank you for my feet, thank you for my eyes! I can see and touch, and what I see and feel is amazing.”
What are you grateful for in your life?
Are you hungry because you didn’t have time to eat, or because you have no money to buy any food?
Are you cold because you ran out and forgot your jacket or because you are homeless with no extra clothes to wear?
Did you get wet in the rain because you forgot your umbrella or because you had no place to take shelter?
Are you legs sore because you worked out hard at the gym or because you have no car so you have to walk everywhere you go?
The next time you feel like complaining about some part of your life, think first.
There is no guarantee what will happen tomorrow.  If you don’t learn to appreciate what you have now, no matter how much you gain, you will never appreciate it.
There are people who have no arms, so they learn to use their feet to write.
There are people who have no hands or feet, so they learn to use their mouth to paint.
People who have no eyes learn to use their ears to see.
Why? They have passion about their lives. They don’t take free rides or complain.
Remember to have gratitude!

The ultimate purpose of Jung SuWon is to guide students how to navigate all aspects of life from a higher, more focused plane of existence. Jung SuWon enables you to develop the “Silent Master:” a greater awareness and appreciation for your true self and enhanced wisdom for navigating all aspects of life, resulting in a happier and more fulfilling one.

In Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s words:

“Can you imagine your hand going through a brick, breaking it to pieces? Can you imagine going through a stack of ten bricks? Maybe you think this is an impossible accomplishment for you or anyone. I assure you it is not…What I can teach you will enable you to break not only bricks but also the harder barriers that may be blocking happiness and fulfillment in your life.”

Do you have a dream? Is there something that you’re searching for, or something that you’ve always wanted to achieve? Dr. Kim’s NorthStar site is full of resources that can also guide you to find your answers.

There are so many issues and drama in the world today. We can turn on the news and see negative things happening across the world. It is true that we ourselves go through stress, struggles and tribulations. However, we have a choice as to how we want to feel about it. Having a positive attitude is a mindset, regardless of what circumstances you are in.

We have control of how we want to feel about ourselves or about our lives. Life will not always be perfect and it will throw curveballs at you, but it is important to take these in stride. Without that, we will let our issues consume us.

Training at Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy and meditating helps us to recognize the positive things in our lives and helps us maintain that emotional and mental strength. I’ve been trained by my founder Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim to embrace the issues in my life and be able to rise above and overcome. We will become wiser and stronger by the end of it. Through her seminars and lectures, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim instills a determination and spirit to never give up in our lives. The choice is ours and the power is in us. Don’t let your environment consume you and take over you.

In class, the students read the Seven Steps to Inner Power Book on Page 69.  Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim shares, “Here is an example. I met Scott when he was in his twenties when he came to me for martial arts training. For many years Scott had believed that one of his “weaknesses” was that he was a terrible singer. As part of the training I give my students, I encourage them to examine where their limiting ideas have come from and whether those ideas are really based on true facts. Oftentimes, these beliefs are based solely on the opinions others have fed them. So Scott asked himself where the idea that he was a bad singer originally came from. It turned out that when he was in the fifth grade, Scott and his classmates were singing the song “Mr. Moon” with gusto when suddenly his teacher looked up at him and said, “Scott, your voice is terrible. Sit down and shut up.”

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is teaching us that it is important to realize that what we sometimes perceive as a weakness is really a fear to try something because others have convinced us that we are not good at it.

With the example given, we also realized that unfortunately, there are many environments out there that don’t provide us the right support for us to learn more about the truth of who we really are. Just like the example of the teacher who scolded Scott to sit down because he had a terrible voice, many times we faced similar situations where we give the power to other people to engrave their own opinion of who we are when really it is just their opinion and has nothing to do with the truth!

At Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy, students are given the opportunity and support for them to really know the truth about themselves are as they get to know their own strengths and weaknesses. One of the most common weaknesses that students have is low confidence or the fear of speaking in public or people that we don’t know. In class, we have exercises such as “Meeting and Greeting” where we dedicated a time in class to have the chance to talk to students they have not met and get to know each other. We then asked a few students to speak in front of the class to share about who they met and what they learned about them. For some, this experience is easy but to others, it’s quite nerve wrecking. But in the end, everyone has the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and step forward toward their goal of gaining more confidence! Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim provides students a positive environment to support the growth that they need!

Today is a very special day to take a moment to honor those who have served our country and sacrificed their lives for our freedom!

I have been thinking a lot about what sacrifice means. Without realizing, we are presented with different options and choices every single moment! How do we make the right choices when we are presented with competing priorities?

In Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s book, she shares regarding the topic of sacrifice that gave me a new perspective!

In Seven Steps to Inner Power Book on Page 210, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim shares, “When your Silent Master gives you a desire, it will never ask you to sacrifice something you need. When you find yourself at a crossroads and you must make a choice of what to hold on to and what to let go of, ask yourself if the so-called sacrifice is really a loss. Usually, the things we give up to achieve a goal are things we no longer need or they are unworthy of keeping. If you give up laziness to keep your workout schedule, is that a loss? If you give up fear to develop public speaking skills, is that a loss? If you give up smoking to become more healthy and set a good example for your children, is that a loss?”

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is teaching us to recognize that sacrificing isn’t about being forced to give up something. Instead, focus on why you want to give it up, perhaps so we can grow and transform.

On May 1st, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim released her new book, Seven Steps to Inner Power: How to Break Through to Awesome!

One of her students at Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy expressed during class about the message that stood out to her on Page 114: Living in the Now.

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim talks about that creating harmony in life is to live only in the present moment. She shared in the book, “When it is now, how often are you mentally somewhere else, thinking or worrying about what just happened or what going to happen? Is your mental video recorder constantly playing pictures of the past and projecting concerns for the future? If so, you are giving up your creative power in the present moment.”

This student felt that Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s message is a great reminder that it is important for us all to live in the present moment, to acknowledge every blessing we have in front of us and focus on what we have right here, right now!

This is a truly a powerful book.  Through the simplicity of its message and the care and warmth that rise from each page, you’ll feel as though you are relearning a lesson you’ve always known intuitively—that you can let go of the past, you can choose the life you want and who you want to be, and you have the power to imagine great things and draw them into your life.

tournament 3

Recently, the founder of Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim brought her students to participate in the 44th All National Martial Arts Championship in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In this tournament event, hundreds of martial artist from different states with various rank and style came to unite together in one place!

tournament 2

To Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim and her students, this tournament is not about taking trophies home. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s teaching has always been beyond just the materialistic form of martial art training, and not just punching and kicking, but what she teaches is about passing on the authentic and traditional spirit of Martial Art training. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim gave the opportunities for the students that competed to expand their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level through participating in this tournament event.

Every step of the way, the Jung SuWon students really learned and gained valuable lessons and experience. In fact, the whole trip was a great learning tool for them. Some of them used to get bullied, had lack of self-confidence, addicted to video games and attempted to commit suicide. Coming to this trip, they learned to get to know their true potentials, face their fears and gain self-esteem. Also, they never had the experience of learning to fly to a different state on their own without their parents taking care of everything for them. So as they traveled, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim instructed to empower each student to print their own boarding pass and check their own bags, even the youngest warriors that are 5-year-old so they can learn how to take charge!

We are very proud of each one of these students who not only displayed an awesome representation of a true Jung Suwon warrior in front of many other students and masters of different schools, but they became a great inspiration and motivation to them as well! They also brought trophies: 8 gold, 5 silver and  1 bronze in forms, breakings, sparring, and weapons divisions.
