Living in the 21st century, we are always caught up with our busy days and schedules. Whether it is work, family or our social life, we are operating in a world that is 24/7. However, it is important to pause from our busy schedules once in awhile and catch up with ourselves. We should take the time to ask ourselves how we are doing and if we are achieving the goals that we set out. This gives us an opportunity to evaluate ourselves and to refresh.
Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us to pause and pay attention to the quality of our thoughts and our mind as these are the building blocks of our lives. It is so easy to get caught up in our busy schedules and not think about where we are at and how we are doing. Are we happy and where we want to be or do we feel behind and unsatisfied?
Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches this principle through meditation or something she calls “moving meditation”. This is when we are meditating while doing an activity such as taking a walk or taking a shower; things that we regularly do. She reminds us that when we have an important meeting, we clear out our schedules and make time for it. Making time for ourselves should also be of equal importance.
We should practice this on a regular basis to make it a habit and so we can continue to build and grow in our own lives.

Welcome to the New Year 2017. This is a time where everybody begins to think about their plans and goals for this year. It is also a time to reflect on the previous year to see what goals were accomplished. Did I achieve the goals I set out to achieve? Did I improve on the different areas I wanted to improve?
At Jung SuWon Martial Arts Academy, we began the new year with a kick-off class for 2017. All of the students of all ages and belt ranks gathered to practice and work out together. It was a class of unity and working together. Overall, it was a high energy class with positivity surrounding the training floor.
Everyone had the opportunity to regain their flexibility and wake up different muscles of the body that were dormant during the holiday break. School will be back in session and the schedule will return back to normal. All of the students were excited to be there to be able to work out and be in class and get their body moving. At the end, we gathered together to kick off the New Year with celebratory cake to start off the new year.
As Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us, we should set our “Future Memory” for 2017 and think about what we want to achieve. Visualize the goal and know that it has already been achieved inside of your mind and put into action. Everybody stay focused and let’s make it an awesome 2017!
Jung Su!
He Can Do, She Can Do, Why Not Me!
We have been buzzing with all sorts of activity! Never a dull moment at Jung Suwon, and that is how Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim likes it to be! She wants to share her wisdom with people of all ages, and has always something going on!
We just had a most outstanding testing last Thursday, it was the Jung Suwon 28-year in California anniversary! The Dojang was packed, and for the first time ever Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim divided up the DoJang into 3 rings, for 3 testing groups to challenge themselves at the same time. We’ll put up a lot more pictures and stories about that!
Last weekend our brave and valiant demo team went up to San Francisco to perform at the Korean Festival, right on Union Square.
The place was packed, and a large, enthusiastic crowd gave support to the team.
First, as always, they started out with Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s special energy form.
Then it was time to show some powerful body and mind demonstration:
Senior Instructor Alvin Sojourner announces his goals
Master Maguire is getting himself ready….
and splits his energy equally and breaks both stacks of bricks!
Then, Master Palmer shows intense focus and concentration during his “jump over 4 people rolling break.” Check it out:
And one of our purple belts, Luke Amador, dazzles with a fancy kick break routine, proving that no matter what age you are – you can achieve your goals!
At Jung Suwon, the demo team is not to show off a difficult skill, or just go to perform. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim allows students on the demo team not because they can pay money, or because they are so good. No, at Jung Suwon, Our Great Grandmaster gives her students the opportunity to face their fears and anxieties and overcome them, to encourage them even more to become their best!
Stay in tune for more Jung Suwon updates, especially from the testing!

This weekend, there has been a lot of activity at our own Jung Suwon facility, all sorts of beautification and improvements going on!
Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim wants us to have the best possible place to train at, and so has encouraged us to make some improvements – lets take a look at what is happening!
Planting at Jung Suwon isn’t just putting flowers into the ground. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim encourages us to think beyond – when preparing the soil – prepare to accomplish a goal. When we settle a plant into the ground, we set our goals, give them root. When we put the soil around the plant, and tamp it down, we add determination to our goals. Finally, when we weed and water, we also pull out everything that could prevent us from accomplishing our goals, and we give our goals renewed energy.
After planting, it was time for some new paint in the school! See our two paint warriors apply themselves and work hard!
There is always something going on at Jung Suwon, and whether it’s a formal class, or an opportunity to put in your energy during facility upgrades – it’s all part of learning!
As Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim always says, have a purpose and determination!
HE CAN DO, SHE CAN DO, WHY NOT ME!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim loves to be involved in our community, and we at Jung Suwon participate in as many community events as possible!
Last weekend, just a couple of blocks away from our school, we had a booth at the Newark Summer Fest, a nice gathering of the local community. Jung Suwon was right there, with our own booth, occasional impromptu demonstrations, and ready to show some basic moves.
Some people even signed up on the spot and got their own uniforms right away!
Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim explains the benefits of Jung Suwon training like this:
“Certainly, increased physical strength and the knowledge of self-defense are desirable rewards of Jung Suwon martial arts training; they reduce fear and weakness and build true confidence and self-esteem. The quality of physical training in Jung Suwon depends directly on the extent to which the spiritual training is applied. learning the martial art moves and forms, learning how to spar effectively with an opponent, and demonstrating extraordinary physical feats (breaking bricks with your bare hand) require that you use all the principles of awareness, balance, visualization, commitment – all the rules of mental conduct – as well as the principles of inner power.
Training in the physical form of Jung Suwon requires that you focus all these ides within the parameters of this structured art form and that you develop yourself and measure your progress in disciplined manner. Your training, then, can be feedback system, letting you know where you stand in taking control of your mind and body.”
