time

We are living in the 21st century, where our lifestyles are fast-paced and rapidly moving. Our days are filled with tasks and responsibilities that we need to complete and we are bombarded with the use of technology. Nevertheless, it is important for all of us to make time for ourselves as a means of self-evaluation and self-reflection. We need to spend that time with ourselves thinking about our goals, where we want to go and be in our lives, and how to go about achieving them. This process can be done through meditation as well.

Why is it important to make time for ourselves? Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches about quieting our minds and listening to our Silent Master. Sometimes we are so engaged in what we need to do that we don’t have time to think. Instead, we just do the things that we are supposed to do, one thing after another. However, spending that quiet time helps us to gather ourselves, meditate and think about where we are. It helps us to give a focus and a purpose of why we are doing the things we are doing. It also gives us a moment to evaluate if I am taking the necessary steps to achieve my goals.

For example, during Jung SuWon classes, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches about separating the dojang floor with the lobby. Once we step on the dojang floor, we salute the flag and then we enter. We are training the students to differentiate the lobby from the training floor. Once we are on the training floor, we are there to train. Mentally, we are also separating ourselves from the stressful day at work or the argument we got into. Instead, we enter the training floor and we forget about that stressful thing during class. In these times, we focus on ourselves and we train without thinking about the outside things we need to deal with.

We should make it a routine to stop for a moment and evaluate ourselves. The more we are willing to stop and think, the more we are able to determine and evaluate ourselves and how to improve in different areas.

They are used to looking for love outside of themselves, always wondering, “Does she love me?” or “What can I do to make him love me more?” They have no idea what self-love is. What kind of energy are you pumping into yourself daily? Hatred? Criticism? Disrespect? Or love?”

Let’s begin right now at this moment to choose love.

Often, it is easier to focus on things we are terrible at and by doing so, it makes it almost impossible to focus on embracing who we are. To learn to love ourselves is to accept all the different parts of ourselves. We have to learn not to devalue ourselves and let insecurities and doubts get the best of us. The more we can learn to embrace both our strengths and weaknesses, the more we can generate love for ourselves.

“Yes, people do make mistakes and hurt others. We all make mistakes. But you never need to condemn yourself or anyone else over and over again for those mistakes. Learn whatever you need to, let it go, and then move on to create a new reality. The main obstacle to forgiving yourself is guilt. If you think back to your childhood, didn’t authority figures usually deal with mistakes or misbehavior by condemning the behavior and the person engaged in it? We weren’t taught that a mistake is an opportunity for education or an opportunity to see what doesn’t work so we can create a better solution.

On page 187 in Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim‘s book, Seven Steps to Inner Power: How to Break Through to Awesome, she talks about being grateful.
“When you wake up and move your body before you begin your morning routine, pause for a moment to be grateful and happy for another day of opportunity. Think how blessed you are to have the use of your body. Celebrate, hum, sing as you stretch. Say, “Wow! I’m alive. Thank you for my hands, thank you for my feet, thank you for my eyes! I can see and touch, and what I see and feel is amazing.”

What are you grateful for in your life?
Are you hungry because you didn’t have time to eat, or because you have no money to buy any food?
Are you cold because you ran out and forgot your jacket or because you are homeless with no extra clothes to wear?
Did you get wet in the rain because you forgot your umbrella or because you had no place to take shelter?
Are you legs sore because you worked out hard at the gym or because you have no car so you have to walk everywhere you go?
The next time you feel like complaining about some part of your life, think first.
There is no guarantee what will happen tomorrow.  If you don’t learn to appreciate what you have now, no matter how much you gain, you will never appreciate it.
There are people who have no arms, so they learn to use their feet to write.
There are people who have no hands or feet, so they learn to use their mouth to paint.
People who have no eyes learn to use their ears to see.
Why? They have passion about their lives. They don’t take free rides or complain.
Remember to have gratitude!

There are so many issues and drama in the world today. We can turn on the news and see negative things happening across the world. It is true that we ourselves go through stress, struggles and tribulations. However, we have a choice as to how we want to feel about it. Having a positive attitude is a mindset, regardless of what circumstances you are in.

We have control of how we want to feel about ourselves or about our lives. Life will not always be perfect and it will throw curveballs at you, but it is important to take these in stride. Without that, we will let our issues consume us.

I’ve been trained by my founder Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim to embrace the issues in my life and be able to rise above and overcome. We will become wiser and stronger by the end of it. Through her seminars and lectures, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim instills a determination and spirit to never give up in our lives. The choice is ours and the power is in us. Today we get to see a new Jung Suwon demo performance – grown up warriors perform Ba Sai, the first new form black belts learn, to music.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is encouraging creative energy for all kinds of Jung Suwon demonstrations, to show all aspects of training.  Forms, sparring, breaking, power techniques, speed techniques, and so much more.

In this video, you will see some very special Jung Suwon warriors perform to an energizing piece of music.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim was very pleased to see the creativity and excitement of the team!  It was very motivating to the performers, and also to the rest of the Jung Suwon students and of course, the audience.

We had a most outstanding testing at Jung Suwon last weekend.  It was truly epic.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim had invited some very special guests, and we’ll write more about that later.

In addition to over 50 eager Jung Suwon warriors testing, there were also fantastic performances by the Jung Suwon warrior demo team.  Because bullying is such a big issue in schools today, but also in other social settings, including online, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim includes specific anti-bullying techniques and tactics in the Jung Suwon classes.

In this video, the Jung Suwon demo team put together an anti-bully routine that wowed everyone!  Give them a big hand!

HE CAN DO, SHE CAN DO, WHY NOT ME!

“You are always testing!”

This is a favorite saying here at Jung Suwon.  And indeed, every student, from the time they set foot into Jung Suwon, every day, is a testing.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim explains it this way: on testing day, what we do is important, but it is for show, it is for the guests mostly.  Sure, in the Jung Suwon DoJang, you have to perform in front of a lot of people, and the familiar stage is now differently set up, with head table and all and you will have to overcome all kinds of fears in order to do your best.  Still, the real testing happens in your day to day performance, at Jung Suwon and wherever you are.  For example, how is your attitude when you come to train?  Do you come to class as much as you can?  Or do you sometimes choose to be lazy?

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim continues, “The real testing is this – can you maintain your goals?  The ones that you have set at your last testing, or when you started your Jung Suwon training?  Are you working harder in school?  Are you keeping your room cleaner?  Are you coming to Jung Suwon classes more?  Have you lost that weight?  Are you controlling your anger better?”

So yes, testing at Jung Suwon is serious business.  Not only do you need to do your best at Jung Suwon, in front of a crowd of spectators, and in front of Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim and all the Grandmasters and Masters, you also need to do your best every day in class, and in whatever you do!

Are you up for the challenge?

Of course you are!  HE CAN DO, SHE CAN DO, WHY NOT ME!!!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim is truly awesome!  Whenever she comes to Jung Suwon, there is always something new and exciting happening.  Sometimes Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim even treats us to a special weekend class!

Last night, in the Jung Suwon DoJang, exciting things happened.  The entire class was invigorating and exhilarating.  Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim prepared us well, with stretching and kicking exercises, and even had us learn to be more focused through throwing and catching tennis balls!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim taught us, that there are 5 categories of people.

1.  Germ section, people that are just plain nasty and like to destroy, just like germs.

2. Mineral section, people that you have to tell what to do every step of the way, otherwise they just sit there and wait, no initiative.

3. Vegetable section, people that do only one thing.  They do it well, but do only one thing, like a tomato plant will only produce tomatoes.

4. Animals section, they do a lot of things, but they lack the purpose and focus in whatever they do.  They just do!

5. Real people:  they create, work and do it all with purpose and determination, they know who they are and what they are meant to do!

And towards the end of class, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim rewarded us with a very special treat, to illustrate what she had just taught us.  See what is happening here:

Successful “reverse head break!”

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim showed us that when you are in an impossible situation, any body part can be used for offense and defense!

And to show that nothing is impossible, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim had us take board breaking to it’s limits.  See Master Palmer do what I call “the splinter break!”
